80th Annual Oceanside Pier Swim

by Sean McKeon

Oceanside, CA, September 7, 2009 – The Oceanside Swim Club (OSC) proudly announces that the 80th Annual Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim — the longest-running pier swim on the West Coast — will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009. The Oceanside Pier Swim is an annual event to help raise money for the Oceanside Swim Club. In recent years, up to 1,000 swimmers of all ages have participated in the Annual Pier Swim, from the youngest in the 12-year-old category to swimmers in the 75-and-over age group. This half-day event annually draws hundreds of fans from the surrounding community, notable athletes, including many nationally ranked triathletes, and swimmers from all over California, the West Coast, and other countries.
Swimmers start at the beach on the south side of the half-mile-long Oceanside Pier, swim around the Pier guided by City of Oceanside lifeguards, and then hit the beach on the north side of the Pier, and finish with a brisk dash across the finish line.
The cost for the Labor Day Pier Swim is $40.00 per swimmer. Swimmers can register by downloading the registration form at the OSC website (www.oceansidewimclub.com) or by contacting Head Coach Paul Ring at (760) 435-1031. Registration is also open the morning of the event beginning at 7:30 AM. Check-in begins at 7:30 AM and ends at 8:20 AM. The first heat starts at 8:30 AM.
The Pier Swim is co-sponsored by the Oceanside Swim Club and the City of Oceanside, and is open to the general public. The Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim always features a great lineup of giveaways and raffles, thanks to the generosity of Pier Swim sponsors.
