InsideTri.com recently got an exclusive look at Alberto Contador’s Specialized Shiv time-trial bike.
Known as a climber and the world’s top GC rider, Alberto Contador focused on improving his time trial in 2009. The two-time Tour de France winner not only bettered his time trial, he won stage 18—a 40.5-kilometer time-trial—of last year’s Tour.
The win surprised many, including World TT Champion, Fabian Cancellara, who placed second, just three seconds behind. For 2010, Contador (Astana) and Cancellara (Saxo Bank) will be racing on the same bike—the Specialized Shiv.
The 2009 Shiv required some tweaks to comply with UCI regulations. Specialized changed the seat post to be 3:1. It also had to develop a more conventional stem, which meant outfitting the Shiv with a new stem, fork, and front brake.
InsideTri.com happened upon Contador’s Shiv last Thursday, as mechanics were setting it up outside of a hotel in Calpe, Spain. Check out the gallery of exclusive shots below.
