American hopeful Shalane Flanagan debuts in the ING New York City Marathon this weekend and admits the training has been tough.
The top-rated American woman this Sunday, Flanagan, the U.S. 10K record holder, has realistic expectations, but “hopes to deliver a win” at some point in her career.
Flanagan ran an impressive half marathon tune-up at the ING Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in Philadelphia in September where she clocked a 1:08:36.
“The training, it’s just hard. And as a newbie to the marathon, I think it’s beneficial to get back to the track. I enjoy the track a lot. I think it’ll make me a better athlete and better for the marathon, just taking the break and working on some of my other skills,” she says.
