January 14, 2010 – Two of the biggest names in U.S. distance running history will take to the roads in the “Valley of the Sun” for the seventh P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon. Olympians Deena Kastor and Ryan Hall will make their 2010 racing debuts in the half-marathon where they each hold the U.S. record for the 13.1-mile distance. The dynamic duo will lead a top international field, featuring seven past champions from the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and more than 32,000 runners participating in the largest same day marathon and half-marathon in the United States.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to compete in the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona half-marathon for my first time,” said Hall, who set the U.S. record in 2007 when he won the USA Half-Marathon Championship at Houston in 59 minutes, 43 seconds, becoming the first and only American to ever break the one-hour barrier on a record standard course, while bettering the previous U.S. record that had stood for 21 years.

TNT has raised a total of $22.2 million (net)
The seventh annual P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon, running on January 17, 2010, is excited to announce the official kickoff to its 2010 training season. Informational meetings and seminars will be hosted by several partner charities and organizations, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Team Chances throughout July and August. The annual event helps more than 30 charities raise approximately $4 million (net) each year, and supports both local and national organizations.
Team In Training (TNT), a national training program that raises money on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, will host its next informational meetings on the evening of Thursday, July 23 in Paradise Valley and Avondale. Each meeting will provide details on TNT’s marathon and half marathon training programs, as well as information on fundraising for this year’s P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona. TNT has raised a total of $22.2 million (net) throughout the six year partnership with the race.
“We really look to these charity organizations to bring an extra boost to our events,” said Dawn Reichert, Event Manager of the race. ”The charity participants are often our most enthusiastic participants, and we try to grow our numbers each year and maximize the charity contributions that are generated through the event.”
Team Chances, another local charity partner, trained over 220 participants to complete the 2009 event. Team Chances mission is to fight childhood obesity and improve the quality of life through sports and physical education for Arizona youth. Runners and walkers looking to get involved with the Team Chances training program can find out more at their next informational meeting on July 23 at Endurance Rehab in Scottsdale at 6:00 pm.
Local organizations and businesses can get involved with a team of their own through the event’s GET FIT Challenge, a friendly team competition designed to get co-workers out of the office and training together for the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona. Awards are offered to the top teams based on participation, and corporations and groups of any size are welcome. The GET FIT Challenge will begin its Third Tuesday Seminar Series, a free series covering topics such as training, nutrition, proper gear and more, on Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 pm at the P.F. Chang’s restaurant at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale.
