Branson To Host Newest Ironman 70.3 Event

Ironman 70.3 Branson will be the latest addition to the Ironman 70.3 Event Series.

On September 19, 2010, the inaugural race will take place in the vacation destination of Branson, Missouri. Ironman 70.3 Branson will serve as one of 34 worldwide qualifying events for the 2010 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Fla. Professional athletes will be competing for a $25,000 prize purse.

The hottest name in American running today is Kara Goucher. The 31-year-old Nike Oregon Project athlete has been on a tear in recent years, winning a bronze medal at 10,000 meters in the 2007 World Championships, setting an American best of 1:06:57 in winning the 2007 Great North Run half marathon in England, winning the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials 5000m, and most recently winning the 2009 USA Outdoor Championships 5000m.

Reed Wins Lifetime Fitness Triathlon In Sprint Finish With Potts, Bennett

American Matt Reed went neck and neck in a sprint finish with American Andy Potts and Australian Greg Bennett to win the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis. American Sarah Haskins showed she is the top American at this distance by easily beating the women’s field.

The opening race of the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon Series provided exciting moments on both the men’s and women’s sides. Both Reed and Haskins have said that they feel non-drafting Olympic-distance races suit them best, and they showed that on Saturday.

American Olympic bronze medalist confirmed for Chicago field.

Deena Kastor has declared her intent to run the 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and she is leaving no doubt as to her intentions.  Not only will Kastor be looking to win but she says she thinks she can better her own American record (2:19:36) and is aiming to run 2:18 or better.  As the 36-year-old begins to reach the end of her peak, it is a perfect time to make a real assault on the American record and try to keep it out Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan’s reach for at least a couple of years.

Chrissie Wellington continues to dominate the field with her second straight Ironman win, while Aussie Luke Bell pumped out the fastest bike and run splits of the day for his first M-dot victory of the year.

No, it wasn’t a tornado spectators saw ripping through the fields of Lawrence, Kansas on June 14, it was Great Britain’s Chrissie Wellington. The reigning Ironman world champion only felt what it was like to be in second place for the brief amount of time it took her to exit the water and hop on her bike.
