We were on the scene in San Diego for the 31st Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships, to see who would be crowned the king and queen of high school cross country for 2009. Check out the highlights of a soggy day in which Megan Goethals and Lukas Verzbicas earned their first national titles.
The 2009 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships will take place this Saturday at a wet Balboa Park in San Diego, Cali. As has become custom over the past few years, the usually dry San Diego weather takes a vacation for the weekend of the championships, leaving the top high school runners in the country to deal with what many consider true cross country conditions. Along with the mud and hills of Morley Field, the competitors will have to be prepared for some fierce competition on Saturday. Here is a quick breakdown of who to keep an eye on this Saturday.

I recall fitting cyclists to their bikes 15 years ago with a tool called the Fit Kit. Back then, bike fitting was a fairly new prospect; before then, it was about as specific as making sure you had a bit of inseam clearance, or could scrape your heel on your pedal when swinging your leg as a pendulum whilst sitting on your soon-to-be new bike trainer. A squint of the eye, and off you went.

The final day of the 2009 Gore-rex Transrockies Run took Thomas and Monica from Vail to the finish line in Beaver Creek, Colo. The last day totaled 21.4 miles and an amazing 4,607 feet of climbing.
92 miles 16,000 feet of climbing, five days of mountain running under our belts we dug deep to summon the strength and conviction to make it to the start line one more day. At the front of the race some teams continued to run strong and stretch their lead while others fought to hang on to their position with one more day to go.
For the last time we will direct you to www.transrockies.com for stage 6 and final race results.
To all the general classification leaders we salute your heroic athleticism and unwavering commitment and the show you put on for all the rest of us.
