Groin Pain: What Is It?i

by Mario Fraioli

By Lewis G. Maharam, MD, FACSM

Like a lot of runners, I’ve been building my mileage to get ready for spring races. Lately, though, I’ve had a nagging groin pain that never seems to go away. I’ve stretched it like I did my last groin pull, but that doesn’t seem to help. It’s been nearly a month now with no improvement. What do you think’s going on? Robin Mack, Teaneck, NJ.

Boston 2010

by ryanhall

Marathon day is always a surreal experience for me. Years of preparation go into building up for a marathon and for the last six months it has been the goal driving every training run for everyday (I only missed one day of training and took Christmas off). As I was sitting on the bus taking me out to what now feels like my second home, Hopkington, I was reminding myself to live in the moment and savor every minute of the experience, and that I did.

First London, Then New York

by Mario Fraioli

Aspen is truly Andrew’s and my best friend.  So much that we fed her the bone from the leg of lamb I made last week.  I was too late to notice that with her powerful jaws and teeth (coupled with her insatiable appetite), she ate part of the bone.  What followed was one of my more stressful weeks. She was throwing up for two days, had blood in her stools and was clearly not feeling well.  Although the vet didn’t seem too concerned, I sure was. Seven days later, she is still working herself back to normal. With most of the drama behind, I can reflect on the minutes in between hovering over our 14 year old Chocolate lab.

I have read all your writing in the past on “doing the salt” but misplaced them and really need that info to share with my fellow runners and walkers. Can you please re-post on competitor.com? Thanks. Kristin E., Issaquah, WA

While most of the international triathlon community will have eyes on this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Triathlon, a little less than 4,000 miles away athletes will competing in one of the hardest triathlons in the world at Ironman China. Cameron Brown, Joanna Lawn Continue Domination Of Ironman New Zealand

by Liz Hichens

Ironman New Zealand is one of few Ironmans in the world where the home athletes loyally race year after year. At the age of 37, New Zealand’s Cameron Brown has become the most loyal of them all, winning his ninth title at Ironman New Zealand on Saturday. For the women, New Zealand’s Joanna Lawn took back the title that was hers in from 2003 to 2008 and she did so by defeating last year’s winner, Gina Crawford of New Zealand, and establishing a new course record.

Loving Las Vegas

by

I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with the first Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego in 1998. I was there. I ran it. But, I had no idea, then, that I had been present for something that would change the running industry in general, and road racing in particular, forever.

Today, in Las Vegas, I was there again for a cosmic shift in the running universe. The difference is that THIS time, I knew it.
