The two reigning XTERRA European Tour Champions, Frenchman Nicolas Lebrun and Swiss sensation Renata Bucher, won the inaugural XTERRA Northeast Cup on a muddy yet magnificent course at Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont today.
For Lebrun, who has been in the U.S. since the Cup Series started with the ultimate goal of adding an American Series crown to his resume (which includes 3 XTERRA European Tour titles and the 2005 XTERRA World Championship), the victory is his first of the year, moves him into 3rd place in the standings, and keeps the mathematic possibility of taking the overall title alive.

Defending champion Robert Cheruiyot up against Wilfred Kigen and Günther Weidlinger will chase 23 year-old Austrian record.
This year’s Commerzbank Frankfurt Marathon will be highlighted by a duel between those two Kenyans who have shared winning the race during the last four occasions: Wilfred Kigen was the winner from 2005 to 2007 while Robert Cheruiyot took Germany’s oldest city marathon in 2008, causing a major upset to the favourites. But this year’s men’s race will also see one of the most promising European athletes in the marathon: Günther Weidlinger. The Austrian will chase the 23 year-old Austrian record.

The ÅF Golden League is half-way complete and the buzz leading up to the IAAF World Track and Field Championships is growing. Emma Moffatt stopped the clock in 1:54:37 to register her third straight victory following wins at the Washington, DC leg of the series and the Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup in Des Moines, Iowa, where she pocketed $200,000.
The race started with a bang as Hayley Piersol from the USA laid down an awesome 1500m swim to exit the lake over a minute ahead of the next athlete. Her brother, Aaron, is a five time Olympic gold medallist in the pool and recently set two world records at the United States national championships.

Until a year ago, Paula Newby Fraser’s Ironman-distance record time of eight hours, 50 minutes, 53 seconds was the stuff of lore, a record time. Then, last year on two separate weekends, three women beat the record, the best time earned by Dutch triathlete Yvonne Van Vlerken, who smashed the record with an 8:45:48 at the Quelle Roth Challenge.
