Mary Keitany wins the Berlin BIG 25 in world-record time. Photo: Victah Sailer@PhotoRun.
If the standards were “soft” before, they aren’t any more.
Kenyans Mary Keitany and Sammy Kosgei broke the women’s and men’s 25 km world records, respectively, in winning the BIG 25 road race in Berlin Sunday. Kosgei ran 1:11:50, bettering by 55 seconds the mark of 1:12:45 set by Paul Kosgei in the same race six years ago. Keitany did her countryman one better, as her 1:19:53 clocking lopped 2:20 off the record of 1:22:13 set by Japan’s Mizuki Noguchi. That time was a split from the Berlin Marathon, however.
Do you have no idea what a good 25 km time is? This will put it into perspective: Kosgei passed the half-marathon mark in 1:00:42, then continued on for another 4 km, while Keitany passed through 10 km at 31:58.
